BRITISH ASSOCIATION FOR THE PUREBRED SPANISH HORSE
1998 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
BREED SHOW CONT...
| Lotte de Yeguas Not content with his success in the show classes, Richard Lust,
stud director at Yeguada Iberica, performed the first ever Lotte de Yeguas demonstration
at a Spanish breed show in the UK, at the British Association for the Purebred Spanish
Horse National Championship Show, in August. |
||||
| The Lotte is a
demonstration of a group of mares (three or more) linked together with a simple neck
collar and worked simultaneously in hand. If the mares have foals at foot, these run loose
while their dams perform. The mares are asked to walk and trot, on both reins and Richard
also had his group of mares performing skid stops from trot, all in a straight line, plus
a few steps of half pass. |

Yeguada Iberica's winning entry in the progeny clan. |
All the mares must respond
immediately to word commands and the mare performing furthest from the handler needs to be
especially quick to respond. When working on the left rein the outside mare may be
trotting fast, or even cantering, while the mare, or mares, in the middle of the group
move more slowly with the inside mare walking. |

Richard sometimes demonstrates a group of five mares, but with two of his team only producing new foals days before the show he demonstrated a group of three Moraleja (grey 10yrs) on the outside, Seductora (dapple grey 5yrs) in the middle and Encantadora (dark grey 4yrs) on the inside next to Richard. Moraleja s colt foal Mandadero and Seductora s filly foal Sirena ran free and amused the spectators all through the display. |

Adios y hasta 1999! |
This year the show featured both
Classical Riding Club and BHS Dressage Classes and these classes received excellent
entries which were judged by Mrs Gill Rose. Both CRC classes were won by Amoroso XXVIII
ridden by Julie Barham, but the BHS classes were dominated by the two very experienced
dressage riders taking part, with Mrs Delia Cunningham wining the Prelim on her young
Spanish Purebred, Desiado, and Mr David Pincus winning the Novice and Elementary on Mrs
& Mrs Warrilow s Purebred stallion, Lebrijano IX. |
|||
| A popular new class for this year was the timed Versatility class which was a combination of Handy Hunter, Police Horse testing, and Western Trail, this attracted a large number of entries and provided a good deal of fun and entertainment for both competitors and the public alike, the winner being the oldest horse at the show, Mrs Marsha Jackson s partbred stallion Sirocco. Next year s show will be at Three Counties showground again on the 14th and 15th August, 1999, so make a note in next year s diary now! | ||||
