A Day at the Races

  "Opportunities to meet Lester Piggott"

When you have your own horse running, a day at the races is a truly memorable experience, and we recommend that shareholders attend whenever possible. Owners badges will be organised, and will be available for you to collect on the gate when your horse is running.

There will be opportunities for you to meet your trainer, and in some instances with Lester Piggott, both in the paddock prior to the race, and during the course of the afternoon. There are certain restrictions at meetings such as Royal Ascot and the Epsom Derby, and admittance to certain areas -–i.e. the Royal Enclosure – is beyond our control. Although we will endeavour to get all our shareholders on to the course, a members badge cannot be guaranteed.

Lester Piggott

Lester Piggott is involved in the club and members may well meet him on occasion.

As all our horses are placed in conjunction with our senior handicapper, and their campaigns and entries are meticulously planned, it allows us to give you plenty of notice about all intended engagements. In addition, when horses are racing abroad we will help all we can with travel arrangements.

Our Trainers

We employ only the very best, using different trainers for different types of horses.

Venetia Williams trains the majority of the National Hunt horses – not surprising when you consider that she has the highest strike rate in N.H. racing – even exceeding that of Martin Pipe. She can only go from strength to strength, and in the opinion of many experts will undoubtedly become champion trainer before very long. Incidentally, her strike rate with our horses is currently 50%. She made history when landing a Group race with her very first flat runner – the horse, our own Stretarez.

William Haggas achieved every Flat trainers ambition when winning the Epsom Derby with Shammit. Doing so at his first attempt was a dream come true, and is a mark of this young trainers ability.

Gay Kelleway is another young trainer who has made a tremendous impression in her short career as a trainer. Gay’s speciality is undoubtedly getting a relatively moderate animal to improve and run to its’ true potential. There aren’t many horses that improve after being moved from her to another yard but there have been many that have ‘stepped up’ considerably in her care. Our own horse La Modiste is a perfect example, winning four times in 1997 after being moved to Gay’s Whitcombe yard.
