| "This picture depicts
Halling at full stretch winning the Juddmonte International at York in
1996 which I thought was his most impressive performance. He was a 5 year
old by the time and had matured into a fine looking individual. He had
worked his way up from the ranks of handicappers as a three year old to
one of the top European middle distance horses at 4 and 5 years, his preferred
distance being 1¼ miles. He performed the unusual feat of winning
the same pair of Group One races on successive years namely the Eclipse
and the Juddmonte International.
In this painting I tried to capture Halling's great, easy stride, the way he carried his head slightly to one side and his jockey's unmistakable style." |
